Design for Developers – Scale and Cropping

Exercise

Find three images, one from among each of the following categories: portrait, landscape, still life, and icons. For each each pick portion of the image to focus on. Using crop, scale, and rotation tools create a new image from the original.

Present both the original and the cropped image from each category. Describe how one might be used in a piece of design.

For this exercise, you will want to use the the original high resolution photo from a site like Unsplash.com and The Noun Project. This will allow you to create a good quality cropped image. Be sure though that you do not upload the high resolution original image, but a lower resolution version.

Still Life Example:

I can envision using this part of the image as a background at the bottom of a piece of design. It gives the impression of something growing from below.
